Rust Converter + Primer and Touch-Up Paint

Guide for addressing rust spots, rust bubbles, and preventing rust from spreading on your car's surface. At least the way I did it. I noticed small rust spots and rust bubbles forming on my car's surface. There weren't many of them, but I wanted to address them to prevent them getting bigger. I got a quote from the dealership for 1500 euros. Since I don't need it to look perfect, I don't need to invest that much, so my local mechanic suggested that I can do that myself. To tackle these issues, you can follow the same method:

What you need:

  1. Touch-Up Paint: To find the correct color code for your car, it's easy to Google where to locate it for your specific car model. Apply the touch-up paint in thin, even coats, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next. For an example: https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DDUgFXD
  2. Rust converter + Primer: This two in one rust remover and ground-coating product based on epoxy resin removes rust, protects iron. You can find it in your local car shop. It's possible to get the paint with the primer, as a single kit.
  3. A needle/pin: To break rust bubbles and clean any lose pieces.

For Rust Spots:

  1. Clean the Area:Clean the rusted area, ensure it's free from dirt.
  2. Apply Rust Converter + Primer: Use a rust converter on the affected area as per the product instructions. This will chemically convert the rust and help prevent it from spreading. Your product should be 2 in one, rust converter and primer for the paint. Make sure you apply it only to rust, not existing paint. This product can dry for a very long time.
  3. Apply Touch-Up Paint: Once the primer is dry, use touch-up paint that matches your car's color. Don't overdo it. We just want to put it on the damage, not cover a larger area
  4. Final Inspection: After the paint has dried, inspect the area to ensure it looks satisfactory. If needed, you can apply additional coats of touch-up paint to achieve a better match with the surrounding paint.

For Rust Bubbles (with images):

Rust Bubbles

  1. Gently Break the Bubbles: Start by gently breaking the rust bubbles using a small tool like a needle or a pin. Be careful not to create larger areas of damage. Carefully remove the loose paint and rust.

  2. Apply Rust Converter + Primer: Apply a rust converter to the exposed area as per the product instructions. Your product should be 2 in one, rust converter and primer for the paint. Make sure you apply it only to rust, not existing paint. This product can dry for a very long time.

Final Note:

You won't be winning any beauty contests, but you have prevented rust from spreading. This simplified method should help you address both rust spots and rust bubbles on your car's surface effectively. It's a cost-effective way to maintain the appearance and value of your vehicle. It suited for me perfectly, I want to use my car for the next couple of years, without the situation getting worse. To further protect your car from rust, consider investing in anti-rust coatings or treatments.
